Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, born in 1974 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, was a Tamil film director and playback singer. He was baptized at 12 and had a sister, Vidhya, who died at just two years old. Vijay attended Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School and later Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School. He pursued a degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College and asked his father if he would launch him at the age of 18.
Vijay began acting at 18 with Naalaiya Theerpu, and later appeared in films like Sendhoorapandi, Rasigan, Deva, and Coimbatore Mappillai, which were commercially successful but not critically acclaimed.
